WATER DAMAGE CATEGORIES - KNOW THE SOURCE AND CONTAMINATION LEVEL

Category 1

IF ITS :

1. sink / tub over flow

2. Broken Fridge water line

3. Broken water line

4. Direct rain water (via window)

5. Broken toilet with clean water

- ALL ARE CLEAN WATER -

THEN

(if 1 on top then do 1 below)

- immediately -

1. Turn off faucet and try to dry all excess water with towels

2. Reach for valve under kitchen sink and if there is no one you can identify, reach for the main shut-off valve (outside, front)

3.Reach for main shut-off valve outside, Call plumber for repair

4.Block rain in-flow by closing window of using a plastic sheet

5.Reach for shut off valve behind the toilet

Water Extraction and/or Drying are now needed

Category 2

IF ITS :

1. Dishwasher's discharge

2.Toilet backflow (clear water, room side of the trap, No soilds) OR Washing machine

3.Underground seepage through concrete

- all are CONTAMINATED sources -

May contain microorganisms or their nutrients and will require disinfection and antimicrobial treatment

THEN

- immediately -

- FOR ALL 3 CASES -

Try to avoid touching with bare skin. If possible, use spare towels or rags to create a barrier for running water to reach dry surfaces. Do not touch water with bare skin

Water Extraction and/or Drying are now needed

Cleaning and Sanitation/ disinfection are a required at most cases

IF ITS :

1. Toilet backflow (Dark grossly contaminated water)

2. Flooding of outside water

3.Wind driven penetrating rain water

4. Rising Underground water

Requires containment and professional intervention ONLY with special equipment and PPE
